The Expert

I wonder, are you, by dint of being employed by the Church, considered by your family to be an expert on all things Catholic?
A relative called, reporting that his pastor had told him that not only does one not "need" (odd word for a completely voluntary abstention,) to forgo on Sunday that which one has "given up" for Lent; but that it is a SIN to fast on a Sunday, (even a Sunday during Lent,) and that there used to be canonical penalties for such a sin.
