All things considered, I'd rather be in Phildelphia....

No, no, I am not disparaging Philthy-delphia Philadelphia, just quoting Caustic Boresavage.

Rather than mention the name of a particular hamlet and then explain where and what it is, as we prepare to head north, Himself has simply said, "going to Chicago."

Well, little did he know that amongst the denizens of the nursing home/assisted living facility where he ministers, and where he said this more than once, "gone to Chicago" is the residents' euphemism for having died.

Kind of like the witches who left for Bloksbjerg yesterday.

Me, I would rather be in Bloksbjerg, or Philadelphia, or Chicago, or just about anywhere, the solstice came and it was as if the weather gnomes flipped a switch. I may hibernate...

Florida seems to be filled with old people, but I'm beginning to think that is not, as commonly believed, because people retire to here when they are old.

Florida MAKES them old.

Is the Concept of Respectable and Respectful Dress Completey Subjective?

I had written a kind of long post about the whining that is going on about young women's clothing, and the arguing about whether telling them they they could save themselves a lot of heartache by dressing  less provacatively is "slut-shamming" and "victim-bashing," but I've put it on hold...

A friend of a friend is all het up because her 12-ish daughter was made to cover up because her school outfit was brandishing bra-straps.

Is this a feminist issue?
Is that really a discriminatory rule? That your underwear can't show?

Is that a random "fashion" rule of the sort that kept male and female tennis players alike in floor length wool?

Or am I turning into my grandmother -- you can't wear blue jeans into the "city"!

High School Theatrics, and Feeling Old

My recollection, (and is may be faulty,) is that there was a small kerfuffle over our drama club's choice of Once Upon a Mattress for the (public!) high school musical because the dramatis personae of the medieval themed farce includes a pregnant out-of-wedlock  lady(-no-longer)-in-waiting.

How things have changed.

A retiring teacher with the sweet demeanor of Phyllis from The Office,

has issued an apology over some choices:
A Washington high school teacher has apologized after an awards ceremony involved jokes about priests abusing children, and sex toys given as prizes.
The formal apology was made by Bellingham High School drama teacher Teri Grimes after a complaint was made by one of the parents who attended the event - but stormed out in disgust.
