Solemn Vespers on Friday at St John Cantius, besides being marvelous and prayerful in and of themselves, (and besides scratching an itch, as Himself would put it... for participation in something solemn, lower case "s",) was a moment that affirmed one in any optimism one has for the future of the Church in this time and place: four wonderful young men professed their first vows in the Canons Regular, Brs. Robert, Kevin, Jonathan and Scott; three renewed, Brs. Nathan, Robin and Brian; and one, Brother Joshua took perpetual vows.
(Incidentally, I discovered that Brs. Jonathan and Joshua are unnecessarily courteous and gracious -- I learned when Mom was visiting and we were unable to attend Mass at ST JC but were given a short tour, that the entire week of the CMAA colloquium up at Loyola, I was addressing each of them by the other's name. And I was never corrected, by either of them....)
