The linchpin of the tenor section approached me after rehearsal tonight and told me, somewhat sheepishly, that he won't be available for any Masses, (or the pre-Mass hour-long "concert" on Christmas Eve, either,) until the 31st, because family is visiting, family who are fallen away but who will go to church if, and only if, he sits downstairs with them.

Man, same thing with our schola, except our guy will be out of town, and we'll be breaking in a new tenor, who has a great voice but has never sung with us and may not have any experience with chant, but is likely to be the one with most volume in his section... It's always something.
