I find this story very disturbing.
I'm not saying I have the answers, I think I can understand what the Home Office is trying to do, but the idea of the state holding a "registry" of who is permitted to present himself as a religious leader seem an intrusion in the conduct of a faith community.
On the other had, this in theory is only about those imams, (the real target?) rabbis and priests and yogis who engage with the public sector -- but that's every one of them, isn't it?
