Pope Francis Shocker!

The words do not appear in the linked piece, but aol's headline for an AP story on  Pope defence of the Faith's ban on contraception took me aback.

"Pope Francis generally shies away from hot-button issues -- a reason why he's so popular -- but Friday he firmly upheld a contentious idea."

Seriously, did you ever believe you would read that anywhere but on a disgruntled Catholic blog? in a mainstream news source, yet?

Of course, they can only say that for the very reason that they choose to splash headlines about what can be misinterpreted as his speaking out at odds with Church teaching and ignoring the details of what he actually said. (Usually - I have to admit, sometimes his words really are less explicit, and more open to misunderstanding than they should be.)
