But it seems correct, the report that the head of the euthanasia oversight commission in Mordor, I mean, Belgium, is leading a "study tour" of Poland including Auschwitz.
Because, after all....
one is constantly confronted with existential pain, question on the meaning of life, matters of self-reflection, free-will, last things, death with (in-)dignity.
So the logical choice was to head to the place that is perfectly emblematic of the devaluation of human life, Auschwitz, the Nazis' detah camp in Poland.
Documentarian Lydia Chagoll will be our guide, she visits this place every year since 1975. And we can throw in a side trip to Krakow, which is even more fun than Prague or Budapest!Okay, I don't actually speak Flemish, (or, come to think of it, recognize it, sothis may be some other language,) this is what the site really said:
In heel de problematiek van het levenseinde wordt men voortdurend geconfronteerd met existentiële pijn, zingevingsvragen, zelfre fl ectie, afhankelijkheid en zelfbeschikking, eindigheid en vooral ook met (on)waardigheid. Daarom leek het ons meer dan logisch de eerst volgende studiereis te plannen naar de plek die bij uitstek symbool staat voor een mensonwaardig levenseinde: O ś wi ę cim, beter gekend onder de naam Auswitz, het exterminatiekamp van de nazi’s in Polen. Deze plek lijkt inspirerend om ter plaatse in een seminarie over deze problematiek na te denken en begripsverwarring te verhelderen. We worden hierin begeleid door Lydia Chagoll, fi lmmaakster en ere-doctor aan de VUB, die sinds 1975 minstens jaarlijks met geïnteresseerden deze plek bezoekt. Bovendien kunnen we tegelijk Krakau leren kennen, voormalige hoofdstad van Polen en culturele hoofdstad in 2000, waarvan gezegd wordt dat ze authentieker is dan Praag en mooier dan Budapest
